This is our Berkshire boar, named Arnie. He will be 4 years old in August. This is a picture of him when he was just a little guy. We will post some pictures of him as an adult very soon.
We have decided to retire him and will be bringing in a new young boar in mid July. He will be ready for breeding in November.
The girls (sows... have had babies).....
- 6 year-old Peggy, a very sweet and gentle Yorkshire-Tamworth cross. She is now retired from breeding and is pretty much just a pet.
- Pinkie, daughter of Peggy 4 years old. She has had 7 litters and is the best Mom ever. Her litters are quite large (13 at a time) and usually very multi-coloured. This likely comes from her rather "Heinz 57" background. She has a sweet and very gentle temperment and can often be found with all the piglets from other litters taking naps with her, being the favourite "auntie" in the pig harem.
- Emmaline is a Berkshire and 1 1/2 years old. She has had 2 litters and is due to farrow her 3rd in mid July.
- Carmen is a Berkshire and 1 year old. She has had 2 litters.
- Miranda is Carmen's sister and also 1 year old. She has had 1 litter and is due to farrow her 2nd in mid July.
